The members of the OCA Ventures team have a passion for building
early-stage companies into market leaders, have long histories working
with one another, and share common core personal and professional
beliefs, while at the same time contributing different skills and
perspectives.
This cohesive group has close business and personal relationships
dating back more than 25 years. John Dugan, Peter Ianello and Marc
Berman were partners in the 1980s when they led O’Connor &
Associates. Jim Dugan is John Dugan’s third son and Eddie Lou and Jason
Heltzer both joined the team in 2001.
Karl James Kleinops -
Karl James Kleinops (Jim) is a Chief Risk Officer for Trading Machines LLC. A high-frequency trading firm located in Stamford, CT and also a partner with Chicago Redux Trading, LLC. A proprietary trading and asset management firm in Chicago.
Previously the Chief Risk Officer for Explorer Fund Advisors, a Global Macro hedge fund founded in 2003. His responsibilities include Risk Control, Management & Compliance of investment activities. Jim’s primary skill set is the ability to design and implement risk management and control policies, systems and procedures. He has an extensive background in risk control, operations, technology and proprietary trading.
Prior to Explorer Fund Advisors, Jim was the Chief Commercial Officer and Board Member of EasyScreen PLC, a LSE listed independent software vendor. During this time he led the company’s development of risk control applications for use in electronic derivatives trading.
Jim began his career with O'Connor & Associates, as a founding member and Vice President of their Risk Control department. He remained with the company throughout the mergers with Swiss Bank Corporation and SG Warburg, as Executive Director and head of European Equity Risk Control.
Following the mergers he served as Managing Director and Global Head of Equity Operations at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell.
Jim then returned to Warburg Dillon Read to assist in the merger with UBS, specifically tasked with unwinding the UBS GED portfolio. This high profile role involved integration of structured equity derivatives and unwind of LTCM positions.
Following the integration, he became Executive Director of Equity Finance and served as co-head of their Equity Swap Desk, focusing upon hedge funds and structured products.
Jim received his B.S. in Finance from Indiana University.
